Martinhal, the perfect travel destination in times of corona

My family and I needed a break after months of lockdown while working from home with kids and missing my family in Portugal. So we decided to travel to the Algarve.

We were looking for a safe place to stay for a week and decided to travel to Martinhal in Sagres. We took a flight from Eindhoven to Faro. The flight was very relaxed and we felt safe taking all possible precautions (mask, hand sanitizers, washing our hands and keeping our distance). After landing, we drove to Martinhal and our vacation could finally begin.

Amazing location

Martinhal is located at the most beautiful beach front in Sagres with a lovely view over the Atlantic Ocean. You can enjoy some family time at the secluded beaches, or relax in your own cocoon with seaview, the perfect private hangout. The first day we enjoyed some time at the swimming pool with seaview, combined with a fun kidspool, where our boys loved to play. Me and my husband loved to chill here as well, since we could just walk over to the dining area and have a delicious lunch or quick bite together with the kids, when feeling hungry.

The Garden House

The first nights we stayed at the Garden House, a perfect family house fully equipped with two bathrooms, two bedrooms, a spacious saloon, kitchen and private garden to relax. The first days we enjoyed dinner and breakfast in our own house, brought to us at the door. Perfect to stay in our own little bubble and have breakfast in our pj’s. This is vacation!

Villa

We had the possibility to spend a couple of days at the Hollywood Villa with private pool. I highly recommend this type of house if you want to enjoy vacation in your own private bubble, with all accommodations at your disposal. The house is perfect for big families or friends travelling in their own bubble, since there are more rooms and bathrooms available. The villa is fully equiped with 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, dining room, kitchen, spacious hallway, terrace, private pool, bbq and beautiful garden. We enjoyed some cooking by ourselves, shopping in the local market, as well as home delivered seafood and breakfast. We were able to dine in the seafront restaurant and have breakfast there as well. This felt safe, since everybody was wearing a mask and keeping the necessary distance.

Kids services

The resort is full of kids proof services and activities. For example the baby concierge with all baby equipment if needed. The restaurants aren’t just great for grown ups, but each restaurant has a baby and kids menu. Everytime we had dinner or lunch, a friendly staff member offered the kids some sanitized toys or color books. They could play near the restaurant as well, with us enjoying our food, while keeping an eye on the kids. We had the possibility to take a baby sitter or let the kids play at the kids club.

Bike tour

On the third day we wanted some action, so we decided to go on a bike tour through the Algarve. Thanks to Musette bikes, it was perfect to take the boys on a family-activity, since they have Thule carriers and different types of childseats. We enjoyed a personalized tour with the four of us, stopping for a little lunchbreak and of course the lovely pasteis de nata at the Lighthouse of Cabo de Sao Vicente. In the evening the boys enjoyed some playtime at the kidscorner outdoor in Martihal, fully equiped with trampolines and a little bit more action on the pumptrack just around the corner.

The next day we took the boys for a kayak tour in the sea, renting life jackets and kayak at the Martinhal watersports centre at the beach. We took a stop at a private little beach next to Martinhal enjoying some rest and a beautiful view. Once back at the hotel, we had our last dinner, while the kids played outside in the fully equiped playground at the beach, while me and my husband enjoyed our diner while keeping an eye on the kids outside. The next morning we had our last breakfast at our favorite restaurant, ready to head home, completely relaxed, just what we needed in times like these.
